Family dinner time

June 11 2023

Dear Family:

No birthdays this coming week that I’m aware of.  Conner’s birthday was Friday. Amy fixed an amazing birthday dinner for Conner and we had a wonderful time.

The photos is from a Christmas party a while back, but Missy and Riley and with Conner
We will have a couple birthdays in July.  Thanks Kenlee for the FB post of Jude’s blessing today. You all look wonderful. (Now why was it that you moved to Texas?)

Yesterday Marissa came over and we spent 4 hours making bread and 2 batches of Freezer Strawberry Jam.  It’s an afternoon I will always remember!

 .

I have one more week of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoon lessons.  Then next week I only have Tuesday morning lessons from 10-12:30.

Today we had our “Fast Sunday Dinner” a week late – for our Portland family.  But Marissa and Clarke were on their anniversary weekend.  Then Tanner and Haley had big car problems and couldn’t make it at the last minute.  So Amy, Mike, Taylor, Kelsy, Cooper, McKay, Enzo and I had lunch.  We had a choice of bacon & tomato sandwiches or Turkey, Cranberry & Cream Cheese Sandwiches, chips, Short girl’s baked beans, and root beer/ice cream floats.

Cooper, McKay and I tried to use my old walkie talkies.  Cooper rode the mini-big wheel and McKay kinda rode the strider.  I loved holding Enzo and just gazing at him. But most of all we visited and had a wonderful time. Our next family dinner is July 9 – ALL OF YOU - if you are in town, you are invited. Let me know if you can come.

I had a gig last Thursday evening, a “Senior Prom” for seniors at Glenmore Retirement in Happy Valley.  Brad, Brian and Amy will remember Joan Anderson – she lives there and her daughter Lori came for dinner and the “prom”.  There was actually a little dancing.  But mostly they appreciated and applauded our music.

This week will be a little lower key I hope.  The plumber is coming Wednesday to replace the flange under the guest room toilet.  Then we’ll see what this house needs next.   So, we’ll see how it all goes.

One of the speakers today in church talked about “enduring to the end.”  The scripture in D&C 14:7 has always been my favorite scripture, “And if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.” The first year I taught seminary, it spoke to me. The speaker put some thoughts out there that made sense to me.  He said we don’t just join the church and then gut it out until we die so we can have eternal life.  Enduring to the end means “enjoying” to the end.  Continuing to keep the commandments, learn and serving others is enjoying.  I will always remember my friend Kristine Saunders bringing me a cake on the day she was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy.  Serving made her happy.  I hope that I can enjoy not just endure to the end.

Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured.” —President Gordon B. Hinckley, “Stand True and Faithful”

“Never lose faith in yourselves or in your capacity to do worthwhile things. And call upon the Lord for help that your minds may be enlightened and your understanding quickened. Then go to work with that assurance inside of you that somehow you can do it.” – Gordon B. Hinckley

I will admit, I do enjoy doing worthwhile things.  President Hinckley’s remarks always spoke to me ….. on my level.  I love his talks, his quotes and his advice.

Attending church alone used to bother me.  But if I allow it, something nice always happens.  Today Hillevi McGaughey walked in, spotted me and sat and visited with me until church started.  Beth Roberts same up and said, “Suzanne” now I know your name! I enjoyed the speakers.  And my friend Mikki visited with me after church.

Keep up all your good things family.  I love you.  I love your posts on FB and instagram. Thank you.

Love Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister and Aunt Suzanne
